Here is a beautiful little orchid that my best buddy, Sharon Dooley, recently gave me. She called it a 'twinkle'. I love it. Hope that it will do okay in my house.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-24112532212373464282014-01-12T10:04:00.001-08:002014-01-12T10:05:50.003-08:00Gratitude Jar 2014

Our friend, Buffy Barfoot, posted about a gratitude jar that she and her boyfriend, Matt, had for 2013. Throughout the year, they filled the jar with notes and info about things they were grateful for. On New Years Eve, they went through the jar together.

I was just enchanted with the idea, and set up our own Gratitude Jar for David and I to use this year. It has a few things in it already.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-908259363300168042013-12-29T06:01:00.000-08:002013-12-29T06:01:14.086-08:00Christmas Decorations 2013

It is too hard to put up the tree when we are both working (and worse is taking it down!). But I put up a few Christmas decorations this year. Here they are.

I set up this beautiful Christmas candle, give to us by Virginia Hobbs, on the dining room table. The two small candles set up on opposite corners of the tablecloth I bought many years ago in Nuremberg, Germany.

Here's the mantel in the family room--resplendent!

I collected these ornament balls over some years from the old Paper Doll store that used to be on the Pearl Street Mall. That store had a large pig out in front and lovely things inside.

I ordered these plates from an insert in a Sunday newspaper. They depict Santa Claus in different scenarios and are titled, "A Grand Old Santa", "Christmas in Paris", "Christmas in Germany", and "Father Christmas." I treasure them.

Here is my nutcracker collection!

I bought all my orchids in the wintertime, and they were blooming--that's why I bought them. So now, they bloom, in the cold time. I think it's a wonderful strategy for having blooming flowers in the winter, although I never thought about it and came upon it by accident. Here are some of my December orchids.
Yesterday Dave brought home a surprise Christmas present for me: Hank. He is about a year old and was rescued from a shelter by the Longmont Humane society because he was about to be euthanized. He is a mix of lab and retriever and some other stuff and is a little shy and quiet. We don't believe he is trained at all, but we are prepared to do the training. We both like him and took him for a walk yesterday where he did quite a good job. I am so very happy to have a dog in the house again!

Here are some more shots of Hank's first day with us.
We were joined by 11 wonderful friends who brought delicious dishes to the party. Dave started cooking three days ahead of time and we tried some new recipes this year, which made it really fun. We invited folks to come by after dinner if they wanted to play some music, and more friends came to do that. Here are some photos of the day, taken by Tom Stuart.

Dave made two bourbon pies, mashed carrots, and baked ham ahead of time. The carrots were an addition to our menu after he heard about them on NPR.

Here are the pies--his pride and joy! They were a huge hit.
We set up tables end to end in the sunroom. This is the first time we've done this type of a set-up. It turned out so great.

Our guests arrived and chaos ensued in the kitchen. But it all came together well and we sat down to a great meal.

After dinner, we all had to rest up for dessert.

Our guests were nearly overcome after dessert.

So, we broke out the instruments to wake everyone up.

Our non-music playing friends sat and listened (and napped). One guest, April, astonished us with a rendition of "Over the Rainbow." And four more people showed up to pick. We went strong until 11:30 p.m. A good time was had by all.

But I suddenly today I felt pulled to it and decided it was time to come back to it. I think I have a lot to say, all of a sudden. Funny, but true. So, I will begin again. This orchid is blooming in my sunroom. I bought it this time of the year while it was in flower, and I always know that it will bloom in the wintertime. Sometimes I take it to bed with me and place it on my bedside table for the night and then return it to its spot in the morning. I never thought I could grow orchids, but I have eight of them. I have killed off my share, but I am getting the hang of it!

I love doing these type of shows.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Xc995iuS3mQ/TvjQbFitULI/AAAAAAAAAbw/jDT46PfOjY8/s320/DSC02041.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5690527292945420466" />

I especially liked working up some new songs, based upon Stanley Brothers material. We did some really old songs and tunes that we don't normally do in our Steel Pennies band.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z_8lfnhkzxE/TwGmFOd4ZkI/AAAAAAAAAcs/dXVvRly442Y/s320/IMG_2229.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014012686001730" />

The first band up was Flatt and Scruggs. Jim's band did this act and did a nice job.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-u3scwjGTcPg/TwGl_SSQUwI/AAAAAAAAAcg/tVoFI6CY9EI/s320/IMG_2228.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693013910631764738" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-8zpf9WWIPJk/TwGmTvaafFI/AAAAAAAAAdE/EE-6vmeP8Ds/s320/IMG_2370.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014262047997010" />

Dave and I had an additional assignment that involved the first band. We played some characters out of the old Flatt & Scruggs video; Dave was T. Tommy and I was one of the Martha White ladies. Jim told me that I would be handling the biscuits. The Flatt & Scruggs band (played by Jim's band, The Stanleytones) worked up the little theme song and Dave went out and advertised the Martha White products like the real T. Tommy used to do. We made up some biscuits in advance, including one trick biscuit that had a rock in it (sealed in oatmeal) and I threw it on the stage and said that it didn't turn out very good. It was silly but fun.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-XVrNKbrDt4I/TwGmLeHL9zI/AAAAAAAAAc4/7hf4L6d4ZLw/s320/IMG_2232.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014119964997426" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-iaDJdOo2Ou0/TwGmj3c866I/AAAAAAAAAdc/AHavDvrTz7A/s320/IMG_2239.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014539084032930" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Zh4989S8ayE/TwGmaunorSI/AAAAAAAAAdQ/mFNm66Xt9FA/s320/IMG_2235.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014382094101794" />

After that we got to the real fun stuff, playing our Stanley Brothers songs for the show.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-tXFLKNBfwc0/TwGm8wP0v5I/AAAAAAAAAeA/GBrt3-oJ9wI/s320/IMG_2251.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014966646652818" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Bp2U8QqnnZk/TwGm0_5W-NI/AAAAAAAAAd0/4Qx98WX-bu4/s320/IMG_2246.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693014833408440530" />

Dave and Jim served as announcers at different times in the show.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-pv2pKv7ceF4/TwGl5O7YdaI/AAAAAAAAAcU/DmkCtnL_w_o/s320/IMG_2227.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693013806651307426" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-n7WCxRMsvgY/TwGlzo8Ez3I/AAAAAAAAAcI/ftkezhKKu8s/s320/IMG_2225.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5693013710554320754" />

Our friends, Sebie and Tracy Denson portrayed Jimmy Martin and his band. It's an annual fundraiser event, and we were keen to attend and hear the band, Open Road. Ten years ago, Open Road was THE band around here, with rumours of national aspirations and predicted to be the bluegrass band that would put Colorado on the map. They traveled around and packed shows for five or six years, and then hung up their cowboy hats: too much travel and not nearly enough money to be made.

The four guys went on to different projects; one of them lives in Nashville now. This summer, though, the big RockyGrass Festival scheduled a reunion of Open Road as one of their performers, and the Mountain Jam folks jumped to put them on the lineup for their event.

Dave and I went up with our friends, Dick and Janice. It was a fabulous show, with the uber-talented Tim O'Brien sitting in for some tunes with Open Road and doing his own thing with some of his family members--Party of Seven.

Here are some shots from the sold out show, that was held in the side yard of the Gold Hill Inn.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-r4UYfA4o-f4/TrPmgIxt4tI/AAAAAAAAAYk/T6aXtnq8Jhg/s320/DSC01360.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5671129795575800530" />
Here are Dick and Janice; it was a boiling hot day, with no shade. It seemed unable to fly, and I noticed it off and on as I worked in the garden one weekend morning. I mentioned this to Dave and he put on a couple of heavy-duty work gloves and marched out to investigate. He captured the bird pretty easily and it had a white string hanging out of its mouth. Dave removed the string and sent it on its way; he said he didn't know how it would do, but he had done his part.

Less than a week later, I was in the garage puttering around and as I was going inside, I lowered the garage door, and before I got inside the house, I heard a clamor. I stood for a minute, wondering what the racket was, and then saw it--a hummingbird was inside and banging against the window, trying to escape. Of course, I called for the local bird rescuer. As I opened the garage door back up, we watched to see if the little bird would find its way out; it didn't, so Dave got a broom and guided it over to freedom.

Last summer, there was another robin hopping around our yard, with a white stripe around its neck. Initially, we though it was a foreign object, but after observing him, decided it was a pattern on his feathers. I named him Stripe and we saw him around for a few weeks. It was kind of fun to see him out there and recognize him--how often does that happen?Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-63114291677173505232011-09-18T10:19:00.000-07:002011-09-18T10:23:43.464-07:00Butterfly in the Garden<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Zto_cCHBWlQ/TnYoxCQXtMI/AAAAAAAAAXw/DR_dO6KwVcg/s320/DSC01459.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5653751205094470850" />

One evening Dave told me that there was a surprise for me on the camera.
Earlier this summer, Steel Pennies played at the Bruner Farmhouse in the nearby town of Broomfield. We were part of the summer concert series that they host on Sunday nights. The setting was charming--we performed on the porch of an old farmhouse that was relocated to the middle of town some years ago.

It was a Sunday evening and we had a good turnout from the community. Here are some pictures taken by an audience member, who then emailed them to us. We really liked them.

One of them we drank after our wedding. We brought the other back with us to the U.S., and it has been sitting in our basements ever since.

A couple of weeks ago, Dave was going through some wine on the wine rack and he decided we had better drink the bottle of Dom, and that there was a good chance it might have already gone bad. I brought it up and put it in the refrigerator, and we decided that we would drink it over the 4th of July weekend.

So, last Saturday night Dave went to the store and bought the fixings for a surprise dinner--even he didn't know what we were having until he got to the store! He came home and started whipping stuff up: boneless pork steaks, fruit slaw, bread and cheese, grilled veggies. For dessert, he had a little cheesecake with some fresh berries to go on top.

When it was time to eat, he opened the bottle of champagne and we held our breath. The date when it was bottled was 1983; we bought it in 1990 or 1991. Everyone we mentioned this to, said it would be vinegar. Well, they were all wrong. It was absolutely wonderful. That morning of the ride, the weather was bad, so the ride was canceled. I found out later that the weather makes the schedule very iffy. Anyway, all the years since that aborted trip, I kept kind of expecting him to schedule it again, but he never did.

Two weeks ago, I was up early on a Saturday, driving in to work to take care of a minor issue, and the balloons were up high in the sky all along my driving route. As I watched them that morning, I decided it was finally time for that hot air balloon ride.

The next Saturday was the date I wanted; we were going to be busy pretty much the rest of the summer. That was the only day that was going to work. Further, on that morning the balloons were launching from the Boulder airport instead of their usual spot, in conjunction with an airport open house that featured a display of antique planes. I thought it would be fun to walk around and look at the planes afterward. I picked out a company via the internet and called and made the reservation. That was when I realized how important that the weather was to being able to even lift off. After talking to the main fellow from the company I had chosen, Fair Winds, I was on pins and needles the rest of the week, compulsively checking the weather report.

Somehow, I was able to keep this a secret, my surprise for Dave, even though I was dying to tell someone--anyone. I didn't even tell my sisters or my girlfriends. There are people who go for the rides over and over and never get to go up in the air, and I didn't want to get everybody all excited when there was only a 50% probability of success!

On that Friday, I called in at noon to confirm and they told me that the weather report was good and the ride was on. Then, I was really excited because I could finally tell Dave. He had already been talking about how he was looking forward to sleeping in. When he got home from work I told him that he wasn't going to be able to sleep in. He asked why not. I said, "We are going on a hot air balloon ride." He said, "No, we aren't!" I said, "Yes, we are!" It was pretty funny. Of course, he was delighted (and also shocked).

I smiled the next morning when I came down, and he had a backpack there ready to go with stuff that we might need. Everything went just like I hoped. We were able to take off and it really was peaceful and beautiful and interesting. The ride was about an hour and a half. We floated along with six other passengers and the pilot. The pilot's wife manned the chase vehicle and she and some other staff were right there ready for us when we landed.

The landing was a little rough, in my mind, but everyone else said it was a great landing. All I know is that it was pretty bouncy.

After we drove back, just as I had imagined, we walked around and looked at the antique planes. It was a really great day. I was pretty proud of myself.

Here are some shots that I took that day. Some of the pictures are of one of the other balloons from the same company that went up when we did and was close to us most of the time.

<img style="display:block; The theme of the place revolved around the movies and there were movie posters plastering the walls for such icons as "The Wizard of Oz," "Star Wars," "Indiana Jones," and "Back to the Future." Just across from our table was the poster from "Saturday Night Fever."

In one of those stream of consciousness moments, my thoughts went to another John Travolta movie that was not represented on the walls of the restaurant: "Grease." The movie came out in 1978 and I still remember seeing it and loving it. But the moment that I recalled and related to David during dinner happened years later. I was working for a big company in Denver, and one day for some kind of team activity, my group went to the movies. I have no idea what the movie was that we went to see, which makes me smile. It was 1997, and the theater was full. Wish I could remember the show. Nevertheless, during the previews--out of nowhere it seemed to me--the screen flashed to John Travolta as Danny in Grease and that distinctive opening riff from the song "You're The One That I Love" began to play and after a split second, most of the women in the movie theater began to scream.

I still smile thinking about it. It was just this remarkable, funny, and charming moment. It turned out that "Grease" was going back into the theaters for a limited release and that was why they were previewing it.

When I related this to David, he asked if I screamed, too. I thought for a moment and then had to say, "Yes, I think so."Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-7714255105391876122011-06-12T08:19:00.000-07:002011-06-12T08:30:23.586-07:00Garden 2011<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLBgt2KPYfM/TfTZvKU3gpI/AAAAAAAAARM/MdgmyE64Aeg/s320/DSC01201.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617354039486808722" />

I don't write much in this blog in the summertime, due to this very garden. Too much to do out there! I didn't know if I would even have a garden this year, due to working and making sure I have time to play music and not having enough time. But I did put it in and am excited about it. Here's some pictures.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tH4N9bu5Tbw/TfTaivVD2_I/AAAAAAAAARU/Qj4AfYGov-E/s320/DSC01203.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617354925593058290" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-f8Eq14K08iI/TfTa7txlZrI/AAAAAAAAARc/ZdmS1HODZnM/s320/DSC01206.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617355354672555698" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qp5ibiJqXzg/TfTbYoCSxVI/AAAAAAAAARk/1Hk8qwR-xuc/s320/DSC01202.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5617355851348231506" />Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-36996116185254288232011-05-08T06:59:00.000-07:002011-05-08T07:34:19.586-07:00Playing in the Opry Show at the Bertolin Barn<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-gAT0PyUGYnk/TcakosAeCqI/AAAAAAAAAPc/ufCZV1Bhe5g/s320/DSC01123.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604347805224012450" />

Dave and Terry and I were invited to play in a country music show channeling the Grand Ole Opry at the Bertolin Barn. Jim Bertolin has a facility that resembles an old barn where he conducts bluegrass and country music shows. For the show, we did four songs as The Stanley Brothers. Then, Dave and I also played with our friend Jon Garson and did Reno and Smiley.

We had a great time. For the Stanley Brothers ensemble, Jim Bertolin (guitar) and Clarke Wright (fiddle) joined us and we did "How Mountain Girls Can Love," "Will You Miss Me," "Big Tilda," and "Rank Stranger." "Will You Miss Me" was a new song for me and I am always excited to learn something new.

Dave and Jon went to Walmart and bought matching shirts to wear for the Reno and Smiley segment. They were quite cute. You can see the shirt that Dave is wearing in the picture above when Dave took a turn as emcee. The songs we did in that section were "Talk of the Town," and "Banjo Signal."

The show was just so much fun. I was thrilled to be performer there along with some really great musicians. Everybody took their parts really seriously. I took some pictures of some of the acts after we finished performing.

The local Boulder newspaper also did a story on the show with some pictures and video, and Dave and Terry even had their pictures in the print edition of the paper.

Here are some of the pictures I took.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-osrhcii1hHA/TcanmyNQYqI/AAAAAAAAAQc/Hmm5F7hO1L4/s320/DSC01187.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5604351071063401122" />

Our friends, Sebie and Tracy Denson played in the Jimmy Martin segment, which was one of my favorites. I went to a nursery and bought one: a purple leaf sand cherry. The nursery staff told me that they are used a lot around here because they are hardy and can stand up to our hostile climate. I planted, watered a lot and wished for the best, because with our trees and awful soil, you never know.

I took this picture last week. It is beautifully in bloom.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-68325410634928164972011-04-17T07:52:00.000-07:002011-04-17T08:05:29.320-07:00Warning: Dead Squirrel Picture<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nphYd3rzwfc/TasAVwPID1I/AAAAAAAAAPM/J37BYWUhpGE/s320/DSC01067.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596567335663570770" />

This morning, I finally felt a little vindication after years of having squirrels raid my bird feeders. Sure enough, I filled the feeder yesterday and this morning there was a fat squirrel sitting in it, pigging out. When Dave noticed him out there, he went and got the pellet gun and shot him. I didn't feel a bit sorry for that squirrel; over the years they have eaten our grapes, the vegetables in my gardens, and once we found that they took one bite out of each of the pears on our two pear trees. I could not resist getting this picture of the dead critter, although I would be afraid to post it on Facebook. There might be too strong a reaction from the animal-lovers in my friends list.Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5373396660841565990.post-43243959174632192022011-04-17T07:38:00.000-07:002011-04-17T07:52:11.802-07:00Steel Pennies Road Trip<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-VZvbi2lIjoY/Tar9BhV4sGI/AAAAAAAAAO0/KeFJUFPqt5k/s320/DSC01023.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596563689533124706" />

Jerry, Dave and I trekked to Westcliffe last weekend for a fun Steel Pennies getaway. We stayed at Terry and Peg's house, with their lavish hospitality. On Friday night, we played a fundraiser at the Wet Mountain Saddle Club. There was a small turnout, but it was a lot of fun and a great way to shake off the cobwebs as we haven't played together much since Mid-Winter due to Terry going back to work on a short contract job.

Saturday was a music-filled day. We practiced for the gig that night, and Dave and Jerry debated over the set list.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MoLopLI4WFQ/Tar9eZMsa0I/AAAAAAAAAO8/YPPN3zLsQU8/s320/DSC01018.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596564185563294530" />

We ate lots of good food, prepared by Peg, our wonderful hostess.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-L7qO8UznMCw/Tar9zI-Ug4I/AAAAAAAAAPE/dP0SCOcROpc/s320/DSC01024.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596564541985293186" />

Our gig on Saturday night at the Canon Rose in Canon City was fabulous! I have some beautiful Guy Wolf orchid pots that I was looking forward to finally using. When I first bought the orchids last fall, the shop staff told me to bring them in after they finished flowering and they would repot them. My friend, Sharon, owner of nearly 100 orchids (compared to my 4),had warned me to be careful about trying to repot them myself.

When I arrived at the shop, the fellow working there eyed them askance, and then after looking them over, recommended that I not do anything differently with them and especially not repot them. When I confessed that I have never given them any fertilizer, he wasn't even keen for me to do that. Orchids evidently are not big on change. So, I took them back home and they sit in their shabby containers, with their roots tangled about in the air, while my stylish pots are stowed away in the garage.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-wkjXL9vtajg/Tar6w6-ZXbI/AAAAAAAAAOs/Yim8t5-fjn8/s320/DSC01063.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5596561205332893106" />Kathyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10359265385308747122noreply@blogger.com0
